WhitBeach

Whitbeach is about 19 miles from Scarborough and will take around 30 mins to get to car. Like Scarborough Whithas two beaches. The north side Whitbeach has the chalets; the south side Whitbeach has the amusements nearby. Whitbeach is split the river Esk and has two miles of sand.

If you are on holiday in Scarborough then a visit to Whitbeach is a must. Hire one of the Whitbeach hut chalets for the day and you are set. The kids will love both sides of Whitbeach.

There is a long walk down to the north side Whitbeach; there is a lift if you need it. The lift down to Whitbeach cost us 50p the last time we used it. You could just sit in the cafe at WhitPavilion and enjoy the view of Whitbeach.

River Esk

The photo above shows a lovely shot of the River Esk on a sunny August day in 2012 as we pass over it on our way down to Whitbeach. You will see this view as you pass over the bridge and head on into Whitby.

Your best bet for parking up for a day at Whitbeach would be to head for the West Cliff car parks. The Upper Harbour car parks fill up fast, so if it’s after 10am and in the high season months then go up to West Cliff.

WhitHarbour

Above shows the view over the other side of the bridge, this shot leads onto the Upper Harbour car parks and then the south side Whitbeach. Although the Upper Harbour car parks are very close to the south side Whitbeach they do get very busy.

South Side WhitBeach

The photo above shows a shot of the south side Whitbeach with the Abbey looking down on it. This shot was taken from the West Cliff area of Whitby; we find this to be the best place to park for a day at Whitbeach.

Just to the left of this shot there is a road that you can follow down to the WhitPavilion. They have a lovely little cafe that you can sit inside or outside and look across the north or south side of Whitbeach.

WhitAbbey shot from Whitbeach

The shot above shows the view you get of WhitAbbey from the south side Whitbeach. If you plan to visit the Abbey as well as Whitbeach then you can park at the Abbey and walk down the steps you can see in the right of this shot to Whitbeach.

Whittown shot from Whitbeach

This shot shows the south side view of Whittown; the south side of Whitbeach is to the left of this shot. Just at the bottom of the hill in this shot there is a small road that leads to the south side of Whitbeach that is lined with small arcades, cafes and food Kiosks.

North Side WhitBeach Snaps

Whitharbour shot from north side Whitbeach

This shot shows the Whitharbour entrance that splits the south side Whitbeach from the north side Whitbeach. You could sit on this bench and watch the boats coming in and out of the harbour while eating fish and chips. You can see the start of the north side Whitbeach that leads round to the beach huts.

Just behind this shot are the infamous WhitWhale bones that our kids love to stand under and have their photo taken. It’s a great shot with the Whitbeach and harbour as the backdrop.

North Side Whitbeach

This shot shows how long the north side Whitbeach is, in the middle of the shot you can just about see the beach huts. You can walk down to the north side Whitbeach following the paths you can see in the photo that lead down from West Cliff. This shot was taken from one of the Scarborough council car parks; you can get parked very close to Whitbeach.

When you get down to the north side Whitbeach there is a beach management centre where you can hire the beach huts for the day. The Whitbeach huts are £10.55 for the day or £30.80 for the week. To book a Whitbeach hut in advance or to check availability call 01947602897.

There is also a cafe at the bottom that you can sit outside and look out onto Whitbeach.

Parking charges for Whitbeach area

The photo above shows the parking charges to park in the Scarborough council car parks based in the West Cliff area that are close to Whitbeach. £5 for a day at Whitbeach is very reasonable. There are some free parking spaces in the West Cliff area but you need to get there very early.

The West Cliff car parks are close to Whitbeach and are only a short walk from Whittown centre. Whitbeach is a great day out for the kids and with our favourite beach at Sandsend close you can’t go wrong.
