Scarborough Beach Guide

Scarborough Beach

Before you come to Scarborough you need to decide which Scarborough beach you are going to visit. Hopefully this Scarborough beach guide will help you decide what you are going to do and when you are going to visit each Scarborough beach on your day trip or holiday.

Each Scarborough beach has its own unique qualities and we love both beaches for very different reasons. The south side Scarborough beach has the arcades. The north side Scarborough beach has the chalets and the Sea Life Centre. It doesn’t matter which Scarborough beach you visit first you are bound to have a good time. Young or old you will enjoy a visit to Scarborough beach.

North Side Scarborough Beach

Scarborough Beach North View 1

For me the north side Scarborough beach has a more relaxed feel to it when I go there. It doesn’t have the hustle and bustle that the south side Scarborough beach has. The south side has the arcades with all the noises and music from the machines pumping out.

If you are looking for a quieter more relaxed day at the beach then the north side Scarborough beach is for you. There’s nothing better than getting a chalet at this Scarborough beach and sitting back in a deck chair looking out to sea while the kids play in the sand.

This shot of the north side Scarborough beach is looking down from the top level of chalets that are available to hire. If you were to walk down the steps and head left you will go towards ScalMills where the Sea Life Centre is.

This photo of the north side Scarborough beach looks out towards the Marine Drive where you can see Scarborough Castle in the distance.

If you walk to the end of the north side Scarborough beach and turn right where the recently built apartments are you will find Peasholm Park. Peasholm Park has the Naval Warfare, which our kids love.

There are lots of nice little walks you can go on if you go to the north side Scarborough beach. This Scarborough beach has at least three crazy golf courses nearso there is always something to do with the kids.

There are a few little cafes to the side of the north Scarborough beach and there is a Nisa Supermarket. The Marine Drive leads round to the south side Scarborough beach and will take you about ten minutes to walk round.

As you travel around the Marine Drive from the North Scarborough beach to the south side Scarborough beach you will find Hairy Bobs Skate Park about half way on your right hand side.

There are lots of parking spaces available at the North Side Scarborough beach. You can park on the marine drive or in the Northstead or Victoria Park car parks near the indoor swimming pool and Peasholm Park.

Car parking prices vary slightly to park at the north side Scarborough beach as you can see in the parking meter pics below.

Scarborough Marine Drive Parking Charges

The photo above shows the parking charges to park on the Marine Drive, which is situated right next to the north side Scarborough beach. If you plan to visit each Scarborough beach then it would be a good idea to park half way round the Marine Drive inbetween both beaches.

Scarborough Victoria Park Parking Charges

The photo above shows the parking charges for the Victoria Park car park in Scarborough, which is opposite Peasholm Park and is very close to the north side Scarborough beach.

Car parking charges for the other Scarborough council car parks close to the north side Scarborough beach will be priced similar to the car parks mentioned above. The parking Meters at the Northstead and Victoria Park car parks accept card and coin payments. The machines that are closest to the north side Scarborough beach on the Marine Drive only accept coin payments so make sure you have change with you.

South Side Scarborough Beach

Scarborough Beach South View 1

The south side Scarborough beach is the noisiest side but your kids will love this side the best. Not only do you have the arcades at the south side Scarborough beach you have the Spa, the theatre and an amusement park.

At the end of the above photo of the south side Scarborough beach you can see a large building, this is the back of the Grand Hotel and the Olympia Leisure arcade.

If you go upstairs in the Olympia Leisure arcade you can do some bowling or visit their soft play area. Our kids love going to the south side Scarborough beach to get some fish and chips for tea and then have a blast in the arcades.

Above is another great view of the harbour at the south side Scarborough beach, here you can book to go on boat tours at the slipway. You can go on the larger boats for a more relaxed ride or if your feeling more daring have a ride on the speed boats around the bay of the south side Scarborough beach.

If you walk round to the end of the south side Scarborough beach harbour you will come to the amusement park and the free public toilets. The toilets on the West Pier are 40p a go, they are the same at the north side Scarborough beach toilets. An all day family ticket is £1.50.

Like the north side beach the south side Scarborough beach has lots of parking available at the same prices listed above. There are parking spaces on Valley Road and in the underground car park at the Grand Hotel end of the south side Scarborough beach.

The car parks at the other end of the south side Scarborough beach are a lot smaller and are based on Eastborough at the bottom of the town and on Quay Street opposite the harbour at the south side Scarborough beach.
