Scarborough Surfing Hotspots

Cayton Bay is one of Scarborough’ surfing hotspots, it is one of the beaches in the Scarborough area that can be surfed through all states of tide. If you want to do some surfing on the east coast then Cayton Bay should be your first destination.

Cayton Bay has it’s own surf shop based at the top of the cliffs to the right of the path that leads down to Cayton Bay. Each part of Cayton Bay offers excellent surfing hotspots if you are a beginner, intermediate or professional surfer.

There is another surf school on the East Coast based at Sandsend beach, which is north of Scarborough just a short drive away from Whitby.

The Cayton bay surf shop is a short but steep walk away from Cayton bay, there is ample parking next to the shop. For £2 you can park all day, there is a charge of £1 to park after 4pm. If you get there early enough you can park for free on the main road that leads past the surf shop.

Above is a photo of Cayton Bay, as you can see it is a popular surfing spot. As you surf you get a magnificent view of the Scarborough castle and the old town area of Scarborough, this is why Cayton Bay is our first Scarborough surfing hotspot.


Sandsend: one of Scarborough’ surfing hotspots

Sandsend is only a short drive away from Scarborough, it too has it’s own surf school. The Sandsend surf school provides all the equipment you need for a great days surfing at Sandsend beach.

The photo above shows the beach at Sandsend, it is a great place to learn to surf as there are hardly any rocks or shallow reefs to get hurt on. As you can see Sandsend beach is very wide so it doesn’t get overcrowded.
