Planning a trip to Scarborough? There are three main ways to travel to Scarborough, train, bus or car. To get the most out of your trip to Scarborough the best way to travel here would be car if you can. The reason I say this is because there are lots of stuff to do on the outskirts of Scarborough so it’s good to have the use of a car when you get here.
If you don’t travel to Scarborough car don’t worry, you can still do all the stuff we have listed to do in Scarborough on this site. Having a car just makes things a bit easier for you; for example you won’t have to queue for buses to go on day trips.

How to travel around Scarborough
In order for you to do everything in and around Scarborough you are going to have to travel car or bus. The Scarborough bus and train station are based right at the top of town and are within easy walking distance of both beaches.
To experience everything Scarborough has to offer you should travel here car, and if you can’t then hire one when you get here. To hire a car go to our Scarborough car hire page. Although the bus service is very good it will limit you to what you can do.
You can travel to Whitfrom Scarborough bus but we find it is much better to travel car, especially when you have kids. If you go to Whitcar you can then easily travel to the nearbeaches at Sandsend, Runswick Bay and Staithes and not have to stick to a bus timetable.
When you get to Whityou should visit the train station and maybe plan a day out travelling between the rural villages of North Yorkshire. On the North Yorkshire Moors Railway you can travel to Grosmont, Goathland (from the first Harry Potter film), Levisham, Pickering and Esk Valley.
The animal parks and the indoor play areas we mention on this site are based on the outskirts of Scarborough so you will have to travel there bus or car. There are some great little beaches a shirt drive from Scarborough that you will miss out on if you don’t travel to Scarborough car.
You can travel to Seamer from Scarborough train, which will leave you a short walk from the Little Hoppers indoor play area and the Scarborough Karting track.
If you are on holiday in Scarborough and you are planning on a day trip to Filey then you will have to travel there car or bus. We do recommend having a car while you are on holiday in Scarborough so that you get the chance to see everything in the area.
Parking around Scarborough isn’t that expensive and you can transfer your ticket between Scarborough council car parks. So if you buy a 24-hour parking ticket for £5 at one of the long stay car parks in Scarborough you can use it in Whitby, Filey, Sandsend, Runswick bay, Staithes and Robin Hoods Bay.
We recommend having a car to travel around Scarborough for convenience and to take the hassle out of your holiday. Whichever way you choose to travel around Scarborough you will see some stunning countryside across the North Yorkshire Moors.
